Chicago Headline Club recognizes Rivet team with Best Start-Up award, Student Grant
HearHere Radio, Inc. honored twice at Club’s Peter Lisagor Awards

CHICAGO – The team at HearHere Radio Inc. has received two awards yesterday at the 37th Annual Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism in Chicago: The Best Online Start-Up award and a Headline Club Internship Grant. These are the first recognitions the company has received from the Chicago Headline Club.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our journalism at such an early stage,” CEO John MacLeod said after the awards ceremony Friday night at the Union League Club of Chicago. “Our team’s been working extremely hard to bring journalistic excellence to smartphone listeners and it’s great to see them honored by the Headline Club.”

The other honor for Rivet went to University of Chicago undergrad Andrew Holzman, recipient of the Headline Club Internship Grant. He will work with Rivet during the summer of 2014. Holzman previously held internships with Tribune Co.’s WGN Radio and the Hyde Park Herald.

“I want my career to be on the cutting edge of the news business,” Holzman said of his upcoming position. “I believe that Rivet has the potential to be part of the future of radio news, and I want to be aboard.”

HearHere Radio launched its flagship product, Rivet News Radio, in December, just days before the Lisagor awards entry deadline.

Rivet delivers a customizable audio playlist of relevant news to mobile listeners. With a foundation in traditional radio news storytelling, Rivet’s veteran news team develops, reports and uploads original news and programs straight to Rivet users’ playlists. In addition to newsroom content, playlists include stories from trusted media outlets such as the Associated Press, Chicago Public Media and Crain’s Chicago Business.

About the Chicago Headline Club’s Peter Lisagor Awards
Peter Lisagor, the Chicago Daily News’ Washington bureau chief from 1959 to 1976, was one of the nation’s most respected and well-known journalists. Known for his precision and wit, Lisagor gained national recognition for his syndicated column and appearances on such public affairs broadcasts as “Meet the Press,” “Face the Nation” and “Washington Week in Review” until his death in 1976. A Nieman Fellow, Lisagor was a recipient of the Newspaper Guild’s Page One award, the George Foster Peabody Broadcasting award, the William Allen White Award and Edward Weintal Prize for diplomatic reporting.

The Chicago Headline Club, the country’s largest Society of Professional Journalists chapter, established the Peter Lisagor Awards in 1977 to inspire Chicago-area journalists to follow Lisagor’s outstanding example and to recognize truly superior contributions to journalism. Founded as Sigma Delta Chi in 1909, the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) is widely acknowledged as the voice of journalism and a leader in recognizing members of the profession for outstanding achievement. www.headlineclub.org
