Rivet News Radio Powering On-Demand News App With AP
National & World News To Be Featured On New On-Demand Audio Service
CHICAGO – HearHere Radio, the early-stage startup behind the new Rivet News Radio mobile app, has selected The Associated Press (AP) as its principal supplier of national and world news.
Now available on the iPhone, Rivet Radio is integrating AP national and world coverage into its services, providing immediate, personalized access to audio news stories on demand. Rivet Radio puts listeners in control of their news, letting them follow or find the stories they want to hear.
“AP news and audio feeds are ideal for Rivet Radio,” said John MacLeod, founder and CEO of HearHere Radio. “Throughout the day, we receive fresh stories we make immediately available for our listeners. Every time you open the app, it’s ‘the top of the hour,’ and you hear the latest news — including breaking news — from the AP.”
HearHere Radio has worked closely with AP since 2012 to develop Rivet Radio’s unique, on-demand experience, which lets listeners build their own audio news playlists, using categories and keywords they create.
“Rivet Radio’s cutting-edge technology delivers news on your own schedule – starting, stopping, skipping and selecting stories as you wish,” MacLeod said. “With AP as a core supplier of news, Rivet Radio listeners will be assured an up-to-date, comprehensive experience whenever they launch the app.”
“Our listeners hear news on-the-go. They can be part of the news conversation through a simple, easy-to-use interface that conforms to habits mobile consumers have already adopted for music, movies and books,” MacLeod said. “With AP, we’re delivering an interactive, mobile news experience — the ‘what’s next’ for audio news.”
“The on-demand model could really stimulate audio news consumption in the mobile space, particularly with all the opportunity ahead for smart devices and even the connected car,” said Jim Kennedy, senior vice president for Digital Products at AP. “We’re excited to help Rivet Radio power that new experience.”
The Rivet News Radio app is available free for the iPhone in the App Store. HearHere Radio anticipates expanding the service to other markets and platforms, including Android and automotive, in 2014.
