Institute of Politics’ Steve Edwards discusses vision to engage youth on Rivet News Radio
New executive director of University of Chicago Institute on ‘Panorama’
CHICAGO – The University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics is dedicated to pioneering positive change in government. The nonpartisan Institute, founded by former advisor to President Obama David Axelrod in 2013, recently announced current deputy director Steve Edwards as its next executive director.
“Part of the problem now is we’re stuck in ideological positions that prohibit us from seeing practical solutions,” said Edwards in a Rivet News Radio interview, which is available now through the iPhone and iPad app. “Newt Gingrich said it well on our campus, the question in politics over the next 25 years is ‘how do we in the United States come up with fundamentally, new, innovative solutions to meet the challenges of tomorrow’?”
Edwards aims to improve democracy on a national level by elevating the conversation above partisan politics. To do so, he will bring well known public and political figures to the University of Chicago for what he describes as honest and open conversations.
Immediately following the interview with Edwards, Rivet News Radio is broadcasting the full audio from the Institute’s recent “Leading America’s Big Cities in the 20th Century” panel. The event brought together mayors Rahm Emanuel (Chicago), Bill de Blasio (New York), Eric Garcetti (Los Angeles), and Kasim Reed (Atlanta) to discuss jobs, schools, and moving America’s prominent cities forward. The panel is moderated by the Institute of Politics’ founder and Institute Director David Axelrod.
